Software Gateway – OS Linux Install Guide
Follow the guide below to install the Linux OS Gateway
Before starting the installation process, keep in mind the following information:
- Critical Labs gateway requires either a Static or Reserved DHCP IP Address
- Outbound Internet access will be needed from the gateway to the Critical Labs API in
AWS as well as local network access will be needed to access SNMP/Modbus for polling
devices on local ports.
For more detail on the required firewall settings, please refer to the Gateway Installation
Once you have installed and setup your Operating System of choice, please proceed to install
the latest build of the Java Runtime Environment 8 (JRE 8). This can be done using your
preferred package manager or downloaded from the web.
Cloud Setup and Software Installation
In order to download the gateway installer, you will first need access to the Critical Labs portal.
If you do not already have an account, please reach out to Critical Labs Support at
Step 1: Once you have logged in to the portal, open the navigation menu and select “My Equipment”.
Step 2: Now click the Add button (+) in the right hand corner of the Gateways page.
Step 3: Select the appropriate software download for your operating system and click Download.
Step 4: Follow the steps to give your gateway a name and then select “Get Key” to receive an
activation key. Please remember to save this key as you will need to enter it into the
gateway’s setup page upon installation.
Step 5: Now that you have added your gateway in the portal you may proceed with running the installer on your machine. The Linux distribution can be installed by running the following command:
sudo sh path-to-cl-gateway-installer.sh
Step 6: Follow the prompts on the screen to select an installation location and install the software. Upon completion, navigate to the Gateway’s status page in your browser. The status page can be found at http://localhost:9001. If you are accessing the machine from a remote host, you will need to enter the host IP address rather than localhost.
Step 7: Copy and paste the activation key that was provided to you in Step 4 and click Activate. Upon successful activation you will see a success message. Your gateway is now connected to the Critical Labs portal and you can begin importing devices!
